We went up to my Mom's house today and I took along a little christmas project to work on. We both had a lot of fun and much good natured ribbing about how hard it was and she remembered when she was the one to teach ME! :)

Its a great project if you are like me and save WAY too many years worth of Christmas cards.

Tall Ships and Kitties

On the 4th of July I went to the Tall Ships Festival with my sister. It was amazing! We saw so many cool ships. She went for a sail on one of them {The Lady Washington, which was The Intrepid in the Pirates movie} and when she was going out on that, I was lucky enough to be right next to another ship that was sailing from the dock. They don't normally sail away from the dock, they use motors. But the wind was just right, so we had a real treat. I was only about 6 feet from them the whole time.

And my little Bonnie and Clyde are doing great. I was so worried about Bonnie when she got here. She was so skinny that every morning I would have to steel myself to look into the kennel. But she made it through and she is filling out and plumping up. Here are the two of them, wrapped in Mike's blanket.

We can haz kittens

Since I was feeling a bit blue after Mali Wane left, I decided it was time to start working with my local rescue group.

And man oh man was that fast. I let them know I could take a couple of kittens, and she was at my door that afternoon!

So now I am fostering Bonnie and Clyde. Two motherless babies who are QUITE sweet and adorable. They didn't even need bottle feeding, just lots of love and attention.

Here's one of Bonnie {with her dirty face, she has since had a bath}
Another Bonnie

And here is sort of a shot of Clyde, as he tries to steal her sunbeam

eta: Sorry about the odd multiple posts. I have no idea what IJ was doing, but I think I got it right now.

Early Mother's Day Fun

Since Kevin has to work late tomorrow, we sort of ended up having Mother's Day today. We didn't plan it, but ended up doing so much fun stuff.

Took a long bike ride, and considering that I haven't taken a long bike ride in FOREVER, that was fun but oh my GOSH my rear is sore! They need to make a nice big seat for nice big rears!

Kevin made a dinner that was sooo good, barbequed pork chops with a sticky, spicy sauce, cole slaw and beans. And it was so nice that we ate it out on the patio, and played games of Trivia while dinner cooked, and then after dinner Pirate Dice.

Then we decided to run to the park and finally launch Mike's hydrogen rocket, but after we got there not only did the wind come up like whoah, but we found out it takes 30 minutes of prep time to launch the first time. :(

So I said, heck, lets go get some bananas and make banana splits! Ahh yes, the perfect ending. So we ran to the store, but none of us had cash, so I had a lottery ticket that was good for $10. So while Mike and I started planning out how to get our toppings for under $10, Kev went to cash in the ticket. Kev comes back and says to me, how much was that scratch ticket good for? And I was like OMG, I KNOW it was $10, please don't tell me I was wrong! But guess what? It was for FIFTY BUCKS!!!!

So we all did the happy dance and picked out an armful of toppings {and bananas} and ran home to make enormous banana splits.

So now I am full and soooo happy, and Kev is even going to take me out for coffee in the mornign before he has to go to work.

{I might be posting a recap of this story on my LJ, but that one will hopefully have pictures}

brrrrrrr

Yesterday we set YET ANOTHER record for coldest daytime temperatures. I don't mind today's rain, at least its not snow and it puts my lawn watering off a bit longer.

But this cold can just GO AWAY ALREADY!

I've had my mom's puppies here for a few days, just three left she found homes for the other five already. They have been a LOT of fun. I was a bit worried, it was their first time away from their mama and I thought they might cry a lot. But nope, they are certainly the quietest pups I've ever seen. When they play hard they get to growling and tiny yips, but no whining!

Ahhhhhhh

Hear that?

The wonderful, glorious silence?

That's right, kids are back at school! After a spring break filled with storms, snow, hail, chicken pox and colds, it is a RELIEF to have them out of the house and healthy!!

I should go try to clean my house, but I think I might just watch Gilmore Girls and knit. Yes, that sounds quite appealing.

Pictures!

I'm not really sure how to make sure these are smaller size, but I wanted to post them anyway.

First, the cookies I made for St. Patrick's Day. We always try to do something fun for this, the kids always wake up to a little pot of gold candies in the morning, and then we have our green beer and green pop with green lightsticks!

Rainbow Shamrock Cookies

My mom's dog finally had her puppies, eight little cutie pies. This is just a bit after the last one was born.

And here's one of Mike, my boy in the bubble!

Just for fun {and because I didn't have any listed} I went through my Friend's list and grabbed an interest from each person who had some listed. I think I got a few really good ones! :)

BRRRR!

It has been snowing here for days. Not big flakes, just tiny tiny tiny ones but after several days they really add up. At Mom's house they have 17 inches. We don't have that much, but at least 8 or so.

Not too cold, which is nice. But tomorrow its suposed to be freezing rain in the morning. On top of all that snow. We already have late start on Mondays. I wonder if they will give us a delay beyond that. They almost never close school here for snow.

I have a picture of the snow at Mom's today, but I can't seem to figure out the post pictures here.

Halloween Toys

A while ago I found a neat site {I think it was posted to some halloween LJ's} that has paper toys to make. Yesterday I finally sat down to make one.

I chose the mechanical bat.

http://ravensblight.com/Bella.html

It wasn't hard to make at all, just follow the directions step by step, and in a few hours you will have a super cool toy, made only out of paper and glue and tape.

Quick note before I go

I am leaving on vacation {our very first family vacation ever! The boys are so excited for their first flight} today, so I won't be back for a week or so. Hopefully LJ won't go too bonkers while I'm gone, but I thought I'd post both here and there so I can check when I get back.
